75' "Catalyst"
Catalyst is a fitting name for a vessel that has changed so many lives and is destined to change so many others.
A group of Port Townsend boat builders renovated the vessel in a Herculean effort. The Catalyst has been chugging through the life-filled waters of British Columbia and Alaska ever since, conducting educational adventures that takes our guests into the wake of humpback whales, past ancient village sites and still standing totems of the sea-going Haida, and paddling kayaks alongside seals and sea otters near shorelines that rarely see humans.
Each week long adventure is focused on a naturalist theme presented by on-board experts, such as nature photography, or natural and cultural history of the Queen Charlottes with an anthropologist.
These are journeys of exploration of both the outdoor world and the inner one. The focus is social and environmental awareness, placing the human being in his or her proper context: Amidst and almost lost in, the grandeur of one of North America’s most awesome, life filled wildernesses. Introspection is the most constant companion of those who join the Catalyst.
